IECRC Welcomes Dr Olivia Huang as Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist and Director of Glaucoma

The International Eye Cataract and Retina Centre (IECRC) is pleased to welcome Dr Olivia Huang as Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist and Director of Glaucoma, reflecting the Centre's ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive, evidence-based eye care for patients of all ages.
Her appointment further enhances IECRC's glaucoma and cataract services, complementing the Centre's broad range of ophthalmic subspecialty expertise. Patients will benefit from comprehensive glaucoma care—from early diagnosis and medical management to laser and surgical treatment—as well as the latest advances in cataract surgery and the management of common and complex eye conditions for both adults and children.
After graduating with honours from the University of New South Wales, Australia, Dr Huang completed her specialist ophthalmology training and glaucoma fellowship at the Singapore National Eye Centre. She was awarded the Gold Medal for Best Candidate in Cataract and Refractive Ophthalmology in the national specialist exit examinations. Drawing on more than a decade of experience at Singapore National Eye Centre, Dr Huang provides care across the spectrum of glaucoma, from early or suspected disease requiring long-term monitoring to advanced cases requiring medical, laser or surgical treatment. She is experienced in a broad range of glaucoma procedures, including trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage devices and Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). Her approach combines compassionate, evidence-based care with personalised decision-making, helping patients make informed choices at every stage of their treatment.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr Huang has been actively involved in shaping the next generation of ophthalmologists. She previously served as Clinical Assistant Professor with the Duke-NUS Medical School Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme, Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and Physician Faculty Member in the SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Programme. She has also led and taught advanced surgical courses for ophthalmologists, including serving as Course Director of the SNEC Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) Masterclass, and course instructor for the SNEC Next Frontiers in Intraocular Lens Design Workshop.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr Huang has contributed to advancing ophthalmic care through research, and has authored scientific publications in leading peer-reviewed international journals and participated as a co-investigator in both industry-sponsored and National Medical Research Council (NMRC)-funded studies exploring areas such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, early detection and long-term patient outcomes.
During her years at SNEC, Dr Huang also played an active role in service improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care. In addition to serving in several clinical leadership positions, she was involved in initiatives that enhanced medication safety, streamlined patient care and improved access to treatment, including projects that reduced waiting times for intravitreal injections and expanded home medication delivery services.
Dr Huang also has a longstanding interest in initiatives that support patients living with visual impairment. During her time at SNEC, she contributed to the development of low vision services and patient education resources, working alongside community organisations to improve access to support and rehabilitation. She also remains actively involved in public education and community eye health programmes that encourage early detection and greater awareness of eye disease.
Dr Huang's dedication to patient care has been recognised through numerous professional awards, including the Singapore Health Quality Service Star Award, SingHealth Outstanding Faculty Award and Inspiring Resident Educator Award.
