Dr Olivia Huang
Senior Consultant & Director of Glaucoma
Dr Olivia Huang is a Senior Consultant and Director of Glaucoma at the International Eye Cataract and Retina Centre, and Visiting Consultant at the National University Hospital. She is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist with subspecialty expertise in glaucoma and cataract surgery, and provides comprehensive eye care for both adults and children.
Prior to private practice, Dr. Huang was a Consultant in the Glaucoma Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), where she also held academic appointments at the following leading institutions:

Dr Huang graduated with double honours from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, with degrees in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and Bachelor of Science (Medicine) (BScMed). She subsequently completed her specialist ophthalmology training under the American Council for Graduate Medical Education-International (ACGME-I) accredited SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Programme in SNEC, and obtained her Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from NUS. Notably, she was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal for Best Candidate in Cataract and Refractive Ophthalmology during her specialist exit examinations. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London (FRCOphth), a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS), and an active member of the Glaucoma Association of Singapore (GLAS).
Dr Huang completed a two-year hands-on clinical fellowship in Glaucoma at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) under the Advanced Clinical Specialist Programme. During this fellowship, she underwent advanced subspecialty training in glaucoma, encompassing medical, laser and surgical management, including trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage devices, and Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS).
In addition to glaucoma care, Dr Huang performs a comprehensive range of modern cataract surgery techniques, including femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS). She is also experienced in premium intraocular lenses, including toric, multifocal and extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) lenses, allowing treatment to be tailored to each patient's lifestyle and visual needs.
She manages a wide range of eye conditions in both adults and children, including myopia, chalazion, dry eye, blepharitis, pterygium, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, retinal tears. This includes performing common office-based and surgical procedures such as laser treatments, intravitreal injections, pterygium surgery, and minor eyelid procedures.
Recognised for her expertise in glaucoma and cataract surgery, Dr. Huang has been an invited speaker at ophthalmic conferences on minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and advanced cataract surgery. She served as Course Director for the SNEC Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) Masterclass, training local and international ophthalmologists in contemporary glaucoma surgical techniques, including the Hydrus® Microstent, iStent® and PreserFlo™ MicroShunt. She was also a course instructor for the SNEC Next Frontiers in Intraocular Lens Design Workshop, an international educational programme focused on advanced intraocular lens technologies and achieving precise refractive outcomes in cataract surgery.
Dr Huang is actively involved in medical education and has served as an official examiner for the National University of Singapore (NUS) MBBS examinations and the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) examinations, and has trained ophthalmology fellows, residents and medical students in cataract and glaucoma surgery. She has also authored a chapter in The Ophthalmic Nursing and Allied Ophthalmic Personnel Handbook.
Driven by a commitment to clinical research to advance ophthalmic care, Dr Huang has authored numerous scientific publications in leading international medical journals and has also served as co-investigator in several industry funded and nationally funded research studies, including those supported by the National Medical Research Council (NMRC). Her collaborative projects examined risk factors, early detection, long-term outcomes and quality of life in conditions such as glaucoma and diabetic eye disease. She is particularly interested in translating clinical research into better diagnosis, safer surgery and improved patient outcomes.
Throughout her career at SNEC, Dr Huang held leadership roles including Deputy Lead Resident, Lead Resident and Chief Resident. She later served as Deputy Clinical Director and Clinical Director of Pharmacy, where she led initiatives in medication safety, multidisciplinary care and clinical efficiency, including projects to reduce waiting times for intravitreal injections and expand home medication delivery services.
Dr Huang also has a special interest in low-vision initiatives that help visually impaired patients maximise their independence and quality of life. She supported collaborative initiatives between the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) and SNEC, the development of patient education resources, the establishment of low vision services such as the Smart Technology Active Ageing Resource (STAAR) Corner, and the training of nurse counsellors to improve low vision care delivery. Dr Huang is also committed to community eye health, frequently delivering public talks and participating in community eye screening programmes that promote early detection and preventable blindness.
In recognition of her contributions to clinical care, education, research and leadership, Dr Huang has received numerous awards. These include the SingHealth RISE Award for Outstanding Faculty, the SingHealth Inspiring Resident Educator Award, SingHealth RISE Awards for her Quality Improvement projects, the Singapore Health Quality Service Award (Star Award 2026, Gold Award 2022, and Silver Award 2019) and multiple SingHealth RISE Outstanding Resident Awards (Three-Time Recipient – 2018, 2017, 2015). She was also awarded the SingHealth 10-Year Long Service Award in 2023 in recognition of her commitment to public healthcare.
Dr Huang believes in building long-term partnerships with her patients through compassionate, personalised and evidence-based care. She emphasises clear communication to help patients understand their condition and treatment options. She focuses not only on preserving vision, but also on helping patients maintain the independence to continue the activities that matter most to them.
Outside of her clinical practice, she is a devoted mother of two and enjoys baking, swimming, yoga and pilates, and being active in her church community.
Dr Huang has consultations at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and Farrer Park Medical Centre. She has admission privileges at major hospitals including Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Farrer Park Hospital, Mount Alvernia Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, Parkway East Hospital and multiple ambulatory surgery centres across Singapore, including Aptus Surgery (Paragon), Aptus Surgery (East), Novaptus Surgery, Novena Surgery, HMI Medical Centre, Foundation Ambulatory Centre (Orchard) and Foundation Ambulatory Centre (Novena).
