A small group of optometrists and opticians joined the clinical staff of Singapore International Eye Cataract Retina Centre at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre for a Clinical Practice Tutorial on 25 May 2017. The tutorial was part of a series of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) activity that caters to eye care professionals who are intimately involved in caring for the eye health of people in the community and patients in clinics.
Dr Au Eong Kah Guan, Medical Director & Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist of Singapore International Eye Cataract Retina Centre, conducted the tutorial and discussed in detail the ‘Clinical Evaluation of Dry Eye & Blepharitis’ and the ‘Clinical Evaluation of Glaucoma’. The conditions discussed are commonly encountered eye problems in the community. About 25% of eye clinic visits are due to dry eye and glaucoma affects about 3% of people aged over 40 in Singapore.
The small group format encouraged two-way interactions and Dr Au Eong actively engaged the participants in a lively discussion which was both interesting and informative. It is hoped that such CPE activities will ultimately lead to a higher level of eye care in the community in the future.
