It is crucial for primary eye care professionals to be familiar with common eye symptoms so as to arrive at a correct diagnosis and to provide the most appropriate treatment and necessary referrals.
At a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) activity on 6 April 2018 at the TK Low Academic Specialist Centre in Farrer Park Hospital, Dr Ajeet Madhav Wagle, gave two lectures titled “Understanding Common Ocular Symptoms” and “Update on Dry Eye Diagnosis and Management” to primary eye care professionals. Dr Ajeet is Medical Director and Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist at International Eye Cataract Retina Centre in Farrer Park Medical Centre and Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.
Dr Ajeet emphasized on the importance for eye care professionals to be familiar with common ocular symptoms which will guide them to the correct diagnosis and management options. Common symptoms such as blurry vision can be an indication of a simple problem such as a change in refractive error. However, it may be a sign of a more serious ocular disease that is potentially sight-threatening and requires a referral to an ophthalmologist for management.
In the second lecture, Dr Ajeet focused on a number of dry eye tests that facilitate the diagnosis of dry eye and its treatment options. With appropriate treatment, it is possible to reduce or eradicate the symptoms and achieve significant relief.
Dr Ajeet’s lectures are part of International Eye Cataract Retina Centre’s effort to raise the standard of eye care in Singapore through regular educational activities for practicing optometrists and opticians.
