Mr Ow Yeong Yu Xiang, a second year medical student from University of Adelaide, Australia, spent a fruitful day at International Eye Cataract Retina Centre on 3 July 2017 as part of his clinical attachment to doctors in Farrer Park Hospital. He had the opportunity to learn from Dr Joy Chan, Medical Director and Senior Consultant in International Eye Cataract Retina Centre, as well as the optometrists in the clinic.
During the attachment, Yu Xiang saw a number of common ageing eye conditions such as ptosis, dermatochalasis and cataract.
The short attachment proved to be a rewarding experience for Yu Xiang as he learned and observed interactions between the eye specialist, optometrists and patients in the clinic. In addition, he learned from the optometrists and saw how they conducted various eye examinations and tests on patients who had sought medical attention for their eye complaints.
