By Goh Jiah Ying, Optometrist, International Eye Cataract Retina Centre, Singapore
As part of International Eye Cataract Retina Centre’s effort to continually improve the quality of medical care it provides to its patients, its ophthalmologists and optometrists attend conferences and training regularly to update and improve their knowledge and skills.
Recently, the centre’s optometrists Ms Ng Shu Yi and Ms Goh Jiah Ying attended the Third Annual Singapore Optometric Association Conference on 27-28 September 2017. The conference, themed “Optometry and Human Experience”, was held in ITE College East.
A number of renowned speakers gave lectures on a variety of topics including axial elongation and ocular changes during orthokeratology, evidence-based approach to non-strabismic anomalous binocular vision and use of over-the-counter drugs to manage common eye conditions. It was a good refresher on primary eye care for the optometrists who also used the opportunity to interact and network with other eye care professionals. Both optometrists found the experience rewarding and were eager to put the new knowledge gained to good use in their practice.
